Here are seven easy ways to find what you were put on this earth to do:

1.      Figure out what you’re good at.  Perhaps the easiest way to find what you were born to do is to look at what you do well.  Some things are easy to you, but hard for other people.  That’s because you were given particular abilities to serve a particular purpose.

2.      Look at what you enjoy doing.  What are your favorite hobbies?  What you enjoy doing can say volumes about your destiny.  Even if what you like to do seems silly, it can still give you some insight into what you were born to do.  Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk took his hobby from the skateboarding ramp to riches.  So, what do you enjoy doing?

3.      Notice what you like talking about.  Everyone has something that they just can’t shut up about if you get them talking.  We all have it.  We can’t stop talking about it because we’re passionate about it.  Your passions point to your purpose.  If you asked Forrest Whitaker about acting or Donald Trump about business, I’m sure they’d have plenty to say.  What do you like to talk about?

4.      Discover what makes you cry.  Tears are a sign of passion.  They show what matters to you in your heart.  A few weeks ago, a 270 pound ex-NFL football player admitted to me that he cried while watching the movie Grid Iron Gang.  The movie is about how one man used football to change the lives of a group of juvenile delinquents for the better.  Obviously my friend would be interested in the football aspect of the movie, but the reason he was brought to tears was because of the young men’s stories. They were challenged youth who overcame serious odds to accomplish their goals.  Interestingly, this guy spends much of his time traveling the country helping young people face their own challenges.  The movie identified with what he already knows he was born to do.

5.      Observe what makes you mad.  There are certain problems in the world that just tick you off.  What is it about those particular issues that anger you so?  Anger is another sign of passion.  You’re probably so mad about these problems because something within you is demanding that you solve them.  Some problems won’t get solved until YOU solve them.  Your anger could be the motivating factor behind their solution.

6.      Recall your childhood talents.  You can look at some kids and just know where they’ll be in thirty years.  They have obvious abilities and gifts that give it away.  A pre-teenage boy named Stephen started making short movies with his father’s 8mm camera.  Today Mr. Spielberg is one of the greatest directors of all times.  Something from your childhood is pointing to your destiny.

7.      Watch who you attractDifferent people are drawn to you because of a similar internal make-up.  It’s as if you have matching spiritual DNA.  As the old adage goes, like attracts like.  Some of them come into your life to teach you, others come to learn from you.  Either way, something within attracts them to you.  Look at the people who are closest to you.  What do you have in common?

Try these seven steps and let us know how they affect your search to find your purpose.  Share any other keys that you have found to help you along the way.
